Below are nine offbeat holidays and how you can use them to promote your hotel or vacation rental.

Be sure to announce your celebration on all your promotional channels, including social media and email.

If it’s too late to take action on these ideas this year, set a reminder in your calendar for next year. That will give you plenty of time to come up with a more clever tie-in than the competition.

August is National Back to School Month.

To celebrate students heading back to school, why not offer a discount to anyone who can provide a student ID at check-in? If you have a Mini App, you can even ask accompanying guests to submit their ID online and have it verified automatically before they arrive.

August is National Golf Month.

If your accommodation has a course, offer a free round of golf to any guests staying in August. If it doesn’t, perhaps you can work out a promotional deal with the closest course.

Prosecco Day – August 13th.

Provide free prosecco downstairs during happy hour or allow adults who purchase room service to include a free prosecco with their order.

National Nonprofit Day – August 17th.

Offer a discount to anyone who works for a registered 501c-3 if they book on National Nonprofit Day.

National Cupcake Day – August 17th.

Put up a lovely sign in your lobby announcing that it’s National Cupcake Day and provide the treats on a fancy tray.

World Photography Day – 19th August 19th.

There are so many great ways to promote your hotel or vacation rental on World Photography Day that we made a whole post about it.

World Entrepreneurs’ Day – August 21st.

Contact a local entrepreneurial networking group to offer up one of your smaller conference rooms to host a networking event for local entrepreneurs.

Alternatively, you could run a promotion similar to the one above for nonprofit day by offering a discount to anyone with the name “principal,” “owner,” or “CEO” on their business card.

National Dog Day – August 26th.

One hotel chain is promoting a discount on pet fees and an extra 1000 points in their rewards program. If you’re expecting canine visitors, put a water bowl outside and keep a bag of dog treats behind the front desk. Always ask before giving a pet a treat. Some dogs have dietary restrictions, and some will do delightful tricks to earn their reward. Some pooches may even pose for your next social media post.

National Beach Day – August 30th.

While you may be tempted to plan a beach party that would make Malibu Barbie jealous, that misses the point of National Beach Day. This day is set aside to keep America’s beaches looking beautiful, so the way to celebrate is a beach cleanup. Rather than organizing your own cleanup, contact a local nonprofit that specializes in protecting your coastal area and offer to sponsor the event. They’ll know what to do.
